【MODERN TIMES × CLAUSTRUM "FASTER THAN LIGHT" EXHIBITION

期間限定展】

Modern Times於五年前創立，一直致力於發掘世界各地高水準手工品牌。來自東京銀座的精鋼生活配件工房CLAUSTRUM就是當中極具代表性的單位。設計師遠藤健史 (Takeshi Endo) 老師大學時代於英國修讀建築，獨特的美學觀集合工業元素及未來感於一体，選用日本工業級不鏽鋼作為他的創作素材，憑著精細手工，創製出一系列前所未見的生活配件，環顧全球，只此一家。

經過多年合作，Modern Times與Claustrum培養出極深厚的互信關係，除了每年恆例的特別刻印活動，2016年3月，遠藤老師更於Modern Times舉行「Live Metal Making」特別活動，與香港支持者見面交流。

為紀念Modern Times成立五周年，我們與遠藤老師再度合作，舉行期間限定展「Faster Than Light」，展出從未曝光的Claustrum機密資料，包括製作工具、遠藤老師在構思期間製作的模型，以及從未正式投產的實驗商品等，置身展覽中就好像深入不對外開放的Claustrum銀座工房一樣。

限量發售】

展覽的另一焦點就是會場限定發售的Claustrum為Modern Times製作的「ARTEFACT」版本 iPhone Holder「FLAP MT」。「ARTEFACT」是Claustrum專門為友好單位特別限定製作的系列。在這個系列出現的打磨技術難度極高，故此不適合大量生產。設計師遠藤健史老師將平日蘊藏腦海中的奇特意念經此系列展現出來，是Claustrum最具實驗性的作品系列。

今度，Claustrum為Modern Times成立五周年，而特製兩個單位首個聯名系列「FLAP MT」，遠藤老師與我們Selector經長時間磋商，大家向著「Faster than Light」(超光速航行) 這個常出現於科幻電影的有趣意念發展，仿效人類在超光速航行中看到的影像，而FLAP就好像遠藤老師的畫布，讓他任意的在上面創作。經長時間實驗，終於，「猶如在超光速飛行中，時間與空間混亂重叠」這個體驗，化成了名為「FTL」(Faster than Light) 這個從未在Claustrum製品上出現的Steel Finishing。每一個都由遠藤老師全手工打磨，而且每個深淺濃淡都不一樣，更具紀念價值。特別聯名版本「FLAP MT」貫徹「ARTEFACT」系列的傳統，只作一次生產，完賣後就只會記入Claustrum與Modern Times的發展歷史中，不會再度生產，故此有興趣的客人請勿錯過。

EXHIBITION】

CLAUSTRUM is a brand under Tokyo Ginza based Steel Inc. committed towards making products that are both simple and innovative. The physical address of Steel Inc. is located in a post-war glass blowing studio, founded by third generation owner Mr. Takeshi Endo, who studied architecture in the UK. All products crafted under the brand are made in the studio right in the heart of Ginza. Known for products that blend both creativity and functionality, like their card case that can be accessed with one hand, Claustrum is truly in a class of its own. During the product development phase, Mr. Endo spends a lot of time in his Ginza studio experimenting to find the most efficient manner of production. This is reason why Claustrum’s mechanical process, structural planning, and material selection are largely unique.

After years of cooperation, Modern Times and Claustrum have developed a deep mutual trust relationship. In addition to the annual free stamping service, in March 2016, Mr. Endo held a special "Live Metal Making" activity at Modern Times. Local fans were excited to meet Mr. Endo for the very first time in Hong Kong and the event was a huge success.

To celebrate the 5th anniversary, Modern Times has partnered with Mr. Endo to hold the exhibition "Faster Than Light" to showcase the undisclosed Claustrum “confidential information” — including production tools, old models, as well as experimental products that have not been officially put into production. Being in the exhibition will make one feel like visiting the Claustrum Ginza workshop — which is not open to the public.

【MODERN TIMES × CLAUSTRUM IPHONE HOLDER "FLAP MT”

LIMITED EDITION】

Another focus of the exhibition was the "ARTEFACT" version of the iPhone Holder "FLAP MT" — which is exclusively produced by Claustrum for Modern Times. "ARTEFACT" is a series specially design for Claustrum's friends. The grinding technology that appears in this series is extremely difficult and therefore not suitable for mass production. "FLAP MT" is the most experimental series of Claustrum.

“Faster than Light" is the idea behind the Modern Times x Claustrum iPhone Holder "FLAP MT”. The experience of "the overlap between time and space flying at a speed of light" turned into a steel finishing called “FTL” (Faster than Light) which has never appeared on Claustrum products. Every single one is hand-polished by Mr. Endo, this special "FLAP MT" version will only produce once. Definitely not to be missed by Claustrum’s fans.
