這世界上真的有City Boy嗎？1976年，在加州，《Popeye》創刊編集者遇到全新「Made In U.S.A」生活方式：網羅運動、時尚、大學生活、室內設計、音樂及汽車等。《Popeye》將一種即將到來的時代感性，體現為「City Boy」角色，並率先引入，成為許多現已深深植根於現代日本的文化。隨著時間推移，這個詞的形象不斷變化；有一段時間，City Boy已經不再被談論。在《Popeye》50周年紀念特刊中，我們將致敬對日本雜誌編集者們產生巨大影響的《Whole Earth Catalog》，並思考City Boy的真正意義。特別製作特大號，向讀者聊表謝意。
 
“Whole City Boy Catalog”
Do city boys really exist in this world? In 1976, the founding editors of Popeye magazine encountered a completely new lifestyle "Made In U.S.A." in California: sports, fashion, college life, interior design, music and cars, etc. Popeye called the sensibilities of the coming era and the people who embodied them “City Boy”, and introduced many of the cultures that are now deeply rooted in Japan. The image of that word has changed with the times, and there was a time when the term “City Boy" itself was no longer spoken of. In this 50th anniversary issue, while paying homage to the Whole Earth Catalog, which had a tremendous influence on Japanese magazine editors, we will consider what the city boy we have been representing has really meant. We present this issue in extra-large volume as a token of our gratitude for 50 years of support.
