“スウェード
裏革の宴” (麂皮盛宴)

“Suede Is Our Essential!”
Suede is made by rubbing the underside of tanned leather with sandpaper or other materials to create a raised texture. Its soft, elegant luster and warm texture make it a popular leather material for jackets, shoes, gloves, bags and more. This processing technique, originating in Sweden, became popular in France in the late 18th century. The name "suede" is said to have evolved from "Swedish gloves" (Gants de Suède). In the early 20th century, it was favored by British aristocrats as practical country wear for hunting and horse riding. Unlike the leather we're used to using in our everyday leather jackets and boots, suede deliberately uses the underside of the leather to create a rough, rugged look. Many people are drawn to this appealing material. This month, we asked a suede-loving lover to share his favorite items and discuss the appeal of suede.
